AMTA 2012 Conference Diary

~ Sandi Curtis, VP & Conference Chair

May Day! May Day! May Day!

Monday, May 14, 2012

Days before the Conference: 151 days

Hours before the Conference: 3,624hours

Minutes before the Conference: 217,440minutes

But who’s counting 🙂

May Day: a celebration of spring; a day of political protests; a neopagan festival; a saint’s feast day; a day for organized labor; OR an internationally-recognized call of distress.

Okay, so it really IS a beautiful day in May today, and no I don’t plan on any neopagan festival, but I may also need to call out for help – I am up to my eyeballs in AMTA conference proposals, trying to create the perfect schedule of the best sessions that will knock everyone’s socks off. What a great bunch; so many proposals, so little time. Phew! Thank the stars for Al B, and his trusty side kick, Cindy. And thanks to a great conference site with oodles of space for concurrent sessions.

Note to Self: How lucky am I to belong to such a wonderful profession with so many brilliant colleagues, all willing to share their expertise at the annual AMTA Conference. Better not let my Art & Drama Therapy colleagues know – they might get jealous 🙂

Still have to work hard not to spill the beans on a lot of the wonderful conference events – some think it best to hold off until the official poster is ready, and they are watching! Can’t name names, but I wonder if Raggedy Andi & Raggedy Al mean something to someone 🙂

So can’t say much, even here in my own diary, but maybe just a few words wouldn’t hurt . . . :

The Four Bitchin’ Babes will definitely open our conference with a splash
They’re great, but I think we can match them note-for-not, riff-for-riff with our very own talented music therapists – I’m just saying: Conference Choir, Drumming UP JOY, Chant Circle, Spirit Dance, a Cabaret, and more – not a bad line up
The Nordoff-Robbins folks are pulling out all the stops with sessions throughout the conference and a special event Friday nite – Clive Robbins: A Creative Celebration
Ben Folds – can’t confirm, but my people are speaking with his people
Our location – St. Charles – okay so it’s not Chicago, but it can’t be all that bad, if it has a Monopoly property named after it – a good buy, if you believe Wikia. Plus it offers a great mix of space for learning, networking, musicking, and relaxing – I think I will have plenty of company in the hot tub, the indoor-outdoor pool, and the outdoor fire pit, with Singing, and Sharing, and Smores, Oh My!

Well Diary, I’d better go. Gotta check out the latest on AMTA 2012 in the social media:
